The Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) is preparing a thematic report on conversion practices and their impact on human rights in the Americas. They say the report will systematize and assess the legal frameworks in force and the measures adopted to regulate, prevent, and punish these practices, with a view to formulating recommendations for States.

LGB International’s affiliates in the Americas - Brazil, Colombia, the USA, Canada and Argentina - have made a submission. We oppose the conflation of LGB and other letters and believe that bans on “conversion practices” are actually dangerous. They are designed to make it illegal to say someone is not born in the wrong body. This is being done behind a pretended concern for lesbian, gay and bisexual people.

We also want the Commission to recognise that the conversion of young lesbian, gay and bisexual people into pretended heterosexuals of the opposite sex is actually the main conversion practice happening at the moment.
